GUY KINNEAR

Guy Kinnear is an associate professor of Painting and Drawing in the Department of Art at Azusa Pacific University. He spent his graduate studies at the San Francisco Art Institute. He has exhibited extensively in California, and he currently lives and works in the city of Azusa.

In his artwork, he is exploring contemporary masculine identity in the light of history, as it is shaped by the tensions between and fusions of the physical and the spiritual. His works begin with conversations with his models about historic narratives seeking find connections. The hope is to find moments where the infinite bonds with the common acts in the midst of uncertain circumstances. The mundane bonds with the transendent and both expand, disorient, and illuminate each other. Those conversations then take shape in an event where the model is able to embody their dialog, and then dialog becomes painted image.
